How to Be

Going back to the rock, this is another old one that underwent many revisions. My favorite part is the guitar solo-ish bridge. Just so you know, I don’t think the piano does the vocals justice. The chorus is meant to be belted out. Rock on.

The story of this song is the journey of life, the questioning and wondering if I am where I am supposed to be. I think throughout this journey, we stumble many times, and without someone to guide us, we would be lost, totally blind. This song is begging someone to show me how to be.

The die is cast, and I am thrown,
And I don’t know if these feet are fit to go
Looking back at the timid winding tracks
Which way now? Or do I turn and walk right back?

I ask each day as time flies past:
Will my path lead to life?

Show me something of our lives
I tell you, I need second tries
I need someone who can see,
Who knows this heart inside of me
Show me how to be.

Another crack in the eyes of stone
A single heart melts but not out of love
Look through the mirrors of the past,
And tell me: Is this the best that I’ll ever be?

There is no reason to be free,
A slave to the choices wrought in me

I trust that you will clarify something
Though it hurts, I hope you will save me

Show me something of our lives
I tell you, I need second tries
I need someone who can see,
Who knows this heart inside of me
Show me how to be.
