Music Discovery: Paper Tongues // by Jonathan // Posted in Free Music, Music

papertongues_trinity_albumartYou might have noticed that this week’s free single on iTunes is “Trinity” by Paper Tongues.  At first I was a bit skeptical of a seven-man band.  However, the single had good ratings, so I downloaded it.  I’ve got to say, after listening to “Trinity” and a few other tracks, the music of Paper Tongues has got to be some of the coolest I’ve heard.  The band is listed as Alternative, and rightly so.  They manage a blend of slight rap and rock/pop with a bit of synth stuff as well.  Very cool. Mess of Me // by Jonathan // Posted in Free Music, Lyrics, Music

The self-denying lyrics of “Mess of Me,” the first single off of Switchfoot‘s latest album, Hello Hurricane:

I am my own affliction
I am my own disease
There ain’t no drug that they can sell
There ain’t no drug to make me well

There ain’t no drug
There ain’t no drug
It’s not enough
The sickness is myself

I’ve made a mess of me
I want to get back the rest of me
I’ve made a mess of me
I want to spend the rest of my life alive

We lock our souls in cages
Inside these prison cells
It’s hard to free the ones you love
When you can’t forgive yourself

I’ve made a mess of me
I want to reverse this tragedy
I’ve made a mess of me
I want to spend the rest of my life alive

Now Switchfoot has come up with an ingenious way to spread the song!  Many CDs of the single have been hidden all over the world.  Use this map to locate the nearest one near you!  Once you find it, listen to it, make a copy, and hide the copy somewhere else.  Once you do so, e-mail friendsofthefoot[at]gmail.com with detail of your hiding spot.  You can also Twitter about it or post it on the official Switchfoot community forums.  For updates, follow the band’s Twitter and look up @switchfoot or #messofme.  If you are having trouble finding the single, try direct messaging the band on Twitter.  Join the craze, and have fun!
